What We Carry
A personal advocacy initiative to encourage more compassion and kindness in a world that’s largely forgotten the impact of simple human connection (even amongst strangers), and the truth that we are all carrying something unseen.
This project stems from the awareness that we have few cultural markers and rituals around loss. Our society is not very good at recognizing and supporting those who are living with grief, often leaving them feeling alone in a time when it can help to be seen.
Loss, death, and grief are inescapable things we will all experience. The phrases on these bags are intended to create curiosity, build empathy by making the invisible visible, and remind us of the common thread of our humanity.
Each tote features an original hand-drawn design (by me:) and comes with an informational postcard.
Bags are 10oz cotton canvas and printed in Canada. Measurements: 16” H x 14” W x 3” D.
If this project resonates with you, I hope you will purchase and wear your tote with quiet courage as you move through the world.
A simple recognition that grief is a normal albeit difficult part of life. You’re not alone.
Printed in a pinky shade of rubine red.
We never know what someone may be struggling with as they go about their day. An invitation for kindness.
Printed in forest green.
Perhaps the boldest tote. While talking about death won’t stop it, it may help to soften the edges around it. Let’s normalize the conversation.
Printed in deep royal blue.
